Global Code of Ethics for Tourism

Adopted in 1999 by the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization, not legally binding, yet the Code features a voluntary implementation mechanism through its recognition of the role of the World Committee on Tourism Ethics (WCTE), to which stakeholders may refer matters concerning the application and interpretation of the document.

Note that according to Article 6 of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism of the World Tourism Organisation

  • tourism professionals have an obligation to provide tourists with objective and honest information on their places of destinations and on the conditions of travel, hospitality and stays.
  • tourism professionals should show concern, in cooperation with the public authorities, for the security and safety, accident prevention, health protection and food safety.
