Rip Currents (by Peter Myles)

Peter Myles lives in Port Elizabeth and is International Tourism Consultant, Coastal & Maritime Specialist, Chair of NMB Maritime Cluster, Steering Committee Member of the International Coastal & Marine Tourism Society, and UNWTO Collaborator. More on Peter Myles can be read at

Peter Myles offered me his PPT presentation on rip currents which he presents on different public meetings on beach safety. In this context I have the permission to quote him as regards to the life threatening danger of rip currents:

"In the 30 years that I have lived in Port Elizabeth I have personally rescued three people from being taken out by a rip current and only my knowledge of the sea and the fact that I am a strong swimmer, saved me and the victims from being drowned!"
