Peter Myles offered me his PPT presentation on rip currents which he presents on different public meetings on beach safety. In this context I have the permission to quote him as regards to the life threatening danger of rip currents:

"In the 30 years that I have lived in Port Elizabeth I have personally rescued three people from being taken out by a rip current and only my knowledge of the sea and the fact that I am a strong swimmer, saved me and the victims from being drowned!"
